Credit Card Terminals

When a business opens a merchant account they require a credit card terminal to process debit and credit card transactions. Credit card terminals are valuable for every business. Here are a few factors to consider when purchasing or leasing a credit card terminal:

  • First, the business must determine really needs a terminal. If you plan on accepting credit or debit cards, you will require a credit card terminal to process each transaction.
  • Second, examine using a multiple merchant account terminal. This option is cost-effective if you operate more than one business
  • Third, plan on how you will connect to the credit card processor. For most people it will be a dedicated phone line. You may be able to save money by connecting your credit card terminal to the internet. For some a phone line or fixed internet connection is a problem. In this case examine utilizing a wireless credit card terminal.
  • Fourth, be aware that whether you use a phone line, the internet or a wireless terminal, you will need to process ATM (debit card) transactions, and so you will need a key pad for PIN number entry. This is an important step in consumer protection because a debit card transaction with a PIN entry ensures that the customer truly is the rightful owner of the account.
  • Fifth, shop around the various banks, specialized companies that only process credit cards, and even the company that sells credit card terminals will often have a list of preferred vendors.
